The success story began in Don Lombardi's drum school, where he and his student at the time, John Good, started improving existing hardware in 1972. Enthused by the success of their work, the two developed their own ideas and launched a height-adjustable stool as the first self-developed product under the brand name DW drums.

Since then, the team around Lombardi and Good has set a standard of quality by which manufacturers from all over the world have to be measured to this day.
