In comparison to the Byzance Big Apple Dark Ride, the Dark Ride features hand-hammering all around the cymbal and has no lathing - as well as being slightly thicker in depth. This makes it distinctly darker and earthier in tone, with more stick projection and raw volume than the Jazz addition. Slower in opening up, the Big Apple Dark Ride produces a dark, roaring natural tone with quicker decay. The stick definition is cutting, with a pearly and metallic sound that is distinct from the washiness of the cymbal. It also works just as perfectly for Jazz, and is simply a matter of preference which Big Apple ride suits you, as they are all equally outstanding in design and sound quality.
